We’re looking for a creative, innovative and motivated Junior Digital Designer to join our in-house Communications team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone at the start of their design career to develop their skills and gain valuable experience, based at Lothian’s main operating garage in Leith.
As the main transport operator across Edinburgh and the Lothians, Lothian is committed to delivering an outstanding customer experience through a city-wide network operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Working within a creative team, you'll help shape customer experiences across the city's public transport network, using innovative ideas, technology and compelling content to bring campaigns and brand communications to life.
Responsibilities
- Deliver day-to-day design projects for the Communications team and wider business.
- Create, develop and deliver engaging digital content across multiple platforms, ensuring communications are consistent, accessible and on brand.
- Create dynamic video content, adverts and animations using motion graphics for TravelHubs, digital platforms, bus screens, internal communications and third-party channels.
- Contribute to the creation of creative assets across a diverse range of channels, including social media, web, print, bus design and large-format advertising.
- Present creative concepts and design work confidently to stakeholders across the business.
- Manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, balancing planned work with ad-hoc requests.
- Contribute to the development of our design system and help evolve the Lothian brand across digital and non-digital channels.
- Maintain a consistently high standard of design and ensure brand consistency across all outputs.
- Working with our Senior Digital Designer you will be supported to develop your knowledge of digital design, including accessibility-first approaches, intuitive web design and UX principles.
About you
We’re looking for someone who is creative, curious and passionate about design, with the ability to turn ideas into engaging and effective visual communications.
You’ll have:
- A strong portfolio that showcases creative thinking, technical design skills and high-quality work across digital and print media.
- Ability to apply brand guidelines consistently across a variety of channels, including social media, websites, video, print and advertising.
- Basic to intermediate experience in motion design and animation, with examples demonstrating the use of After Effects or similar software.
- An understanding of digital communication channels, including social media platforms, YouTube, email marketing, publications and out-of-home advertising.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
- A proactive and adaptable approach to work, with a willingness to take ownership of assigned projects and support team objectives.
- Interest in new creative technologies, tools and design trends, with enthusiasm for sharing ideas and contributing to team discussions.
- Openness to feedback and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Good understanding of design principles, including layout, typography, composition and colour theory.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, After Effects and Premiere Pro.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- A genuine enthusiasm for design and creating engaging visual content that connects with audiences.
Desirable
- A degree in Design or a related discipline is desirable but not essential.
- Familiarity with Figma and an understanding of UX principles.
- An interest in developing your skills in web design and digital technologies, including Elementor, HTML and CSS.
- Experience preparing artwork for print.
